November Track Monsters

November 10, 2017

November is officially our favourite month. No other month this year saw 4 delectable track focused machines roll out days apart from each other.

Firstly, Honda Malaysia officially launched the new Honda Civic Type R code named FK8. Instead of the classic screaming Vtecs, this round you get a turbocharged 2.0L power plant that produces 320PS @ 6500 RPM and 400nm from 2500rpm. 2000 rpm less on the redline may break a few hearts, but the almost doubling of torque should make amends. And for the first time you get to choose a few color options which are Championship White or  the more popular Championship White. On the road price is RM320,000.00 without insurance and you can place your order at one of the 20 authorized Honda Sport Dealer nationwide.

Mercedes's own "Beast of the Green Hell" was unveiled this month too in Sepang International Circuit. With almost 100kgs less that the standard AMG GT-S and pushing out 577hp @ 6250rpm and 700nm from 1900rpm, it launches you to 100kph in 3.6 seconds. With much of the setup and aerowork inspired from the GT3 racer, it sets a lap time of 7 minutes and 10.92 seconds which is bonkers fast for something that is proclaiming to be a grand touring car. This wolf in sheep's clothing pretending to be a sheep in wolfs clothing', will set you back from RM1,700,000.00.

Next up, Porsche unveiled the Gen.2 version of the Porsche 991 GT3. No, it is not turbo charged but this time swaps the 3.8L motor out for a 4.0L powerplant that makes 500hp @ 8250rpm and 460nm @ 6000rpm. The is the similar block of metal found in the GT3RS and 911R but tweaked to rev even higher. Oh goody. Back too is the reappearance of the manual transmission and one cant help but wonder, in the touring guise it does look pretty darn like the 911R which is commanding bewildering figures in the punter's market. Don't worry, the latest GT3 here is available to all from a reasonable RM1,700,000.00 onwards.

The month is only a third through and already Lotus gets in on the action by announcing their latest slingshot the  Exige Cup 430.  By throwing away whats left of a spartan interior, the guys from Hethel tweaked the exisiting 3.5L powerplant pushing the V6 motor up to 430hp and 440Nm of torque. It doesn't take much to make any Lotus move so even with the power bumped up slightly and the weight further reduced, reassured you will blast into the horizon like a scalded cock. Malaysian pricing has not been established but in UK this rocket starts from £99,800.

Now that everyone is in on the speed game, the lines between hot hatches, sports cars and track cars is further blurred. Best be dusting those heel and toe moves.
